Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

fjtyping ("we", "us") is a free typing-practice website at fjtyping.com, run by its owner in the State of Washington, USA. You can reach us at info@fjtyping.com.

2. Using fjtyping without an account

You can practice, take tests, do lessons and play the games without signing up. Your results, settings and progress are saved in your browser's own storage on your device. This information is not sent to us and we cannot see it.

3. If you create an account

Accounts are optional. They let you sign in on another device and keep your progress. When you sign up we collect:

• a username (we ask everyone to use a nickname, not their real name);
• an email address and a password (the password is stored scrambled by our database provider; we cannot read it);
• whether you are a student or a teacher, and a school name if a teacher chooses to enter one;
• your typing progress and settings (scores, lessons, achievements, preferences).

We use this only to run fjtyping: to sign you in, save and sync your progress, and make class features work. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build marketing profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

Classes. A student can join a teacher's class with just a class code and a nickname — no email or account is needed. We then store the nickname, which classes the student joined, and the results of the tests, lessons and passages they finish (speed, accuracy, time taken and date). Only that class's teacher can see them, and the student can see their own. Teachers can also keep grades, feedback and notes about students in their class; private notes are seen only by the teacher. Teachers can rename or remove students, and deleting a class deletes its results. A student who joins without an account gets a random anonymous ID that stays in their browser.

4. Children's privacy

fjtyping is made for children, and we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

• Children can use fjtyping without an account and without giving us any personal information.
• We only collect what is needed to provide the service (listed above), and we don't ask for more than that to take part in any activity.
• We don’t use personalized (behavioral) advertising, tracking cookies or social-media widgets.
• At school: when a school or teacher uses fjtyping with a class, the school may give consent on behalf of parents for educational use only, as COPPA allows. We use student information only to provide fjtyping to that school and its students.
• At home: a child under 13 should only create an account with a parent's or guardian's permission. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without that consent, we will delete it.
• Parents' rights: a parent or guardian can ask to see the information we hold about their child, have it deleted, or stop any further collection. Email info@fjtyping.com; we will confirm you are the parent or guardian before acting, and respond within 30 days.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that run fjtyping for us, and only so they can do that job:

• Supabase stores accounts, synced progress and class results.
• Cloudflare runs the quick “are you a person?” check, and when you sign up it checks that your email’s domain (the part after the @) can receive mail. Your full address isn’t sent for this check.
• Netlify hosts the website. Like any web host, it keeps basic server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.

Our fonts and code are served from fjtyping.com itself. Apart from the Cloudflare checks above, using the site does not contact other companies. We may also share information if the law requires it.

6. Cookies and local storage

We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. The app uses your browser's local storage to remember your settings and progress, and, if you sign in, to keep you signed in.

7. Keeping and deleting information

We keep account information for as long as the account exists. You can ask us to delete an account and its data at any time by emailing info@fjtyping.com. You can clear everything stored on your device with Settings → Reset All Data, or by clearing your browser's data for this site.

8. Security

Account data is protected so that each signed-in user can only reach their own records, and all traffic uses encrypted HTTPS connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the information we hold.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we handle children's information, we will ask for any consent the law requires before applying it.
